1. Ketchup was once used as medicine

As crazy as it sounds, but this is a complete fact that you must believe. Ketchup was used as medicine in the early 1800s. At that time people believed that tomatoes had medicinal properties.

A doctor in Ohio in the 1830a even claimed with absolute determination that tomatoes could treat indigestion and diarrhea. He even went ahead and published recipes for one of a kind tomato ketchup that he soon turned into a concentrated pill for people to use easily.

2. Peanut butter can be turned into diamonds

This is one of the food facts that sounds so stupid and fake. But, it actually not fake and scientists at the Bayerisches Geoinstitut in Germany have performed experiments to turn simple peanut butter into diamonds.

Since peanut butter is very rich in carbon, it is possible to turn it into diamonds. The process is quite straightforward, you need to extract the oxygen from carbon dioxide present in the peanut butter, then extract extreme pressure on the remaining carbon.

3. Cranberries can bounce 

Perfectly ripe cranberries can bounce like rubber balls. Which could actually be used to check if the ripe enough for you to eat them. That is the reason why cranberries are often called “bounce berries”.

Many farmers and users use this strange fact as a ripeness test. Thus, the bouncy nature of ripe cranberries is one of the crazy food facts that everyone must know about.

4. Popsicle was invented by an 11-year-old by accident

The original stories of the invention of popsicle have been debated about. However, it is said that in the year 1905 an 11-year-old boy named Frank Epperson accidentally left a mixture of soda and water in a cup outside overnight. When he saw it the next morning, the mixture had frozen and he tasted it and loved the taste. 

He then started selling the mixture and called it the “Epsicle” at the Neptune Beach in San Francisco. His invention was praised and loved by many people. When Frank got older, his children renamed his creation to “Pop’s ‘Sicle,” or “Popsicle”. We are pretty sure this back story about popsicle is one of the strangest food facts one must know about. 

5. Honey never goes bad

Honey has very minimum moisture and is highly acidic in nature. These are the two properties that keep it from going bad. Bacterias die immediately in a condition with low moisture and high acidity.

This fact explains how archeologists have found pots of honey from decades ago that look and feel absolutely fresh. However, the statement that honey is the only food that lasts forever is a complete myth. Because sugar, salt, and raw rice also possess eternal shelf life just like honey. This property of honey makes this as one of the most crazy food facts of all times.
